Reflection

Well I have just sat back for a month to assess the RedVolution in action and it seems that the club is treading water.

With Queen's Park Rangers visiting on Boxing Day, it is very much, now or never. Phil Parkinson has 3 games to convince the board of the role for the rest of the season or the search for a manager has to be stepped up.

We seem unable to compete. Now the players are good enough to hold their own in this division and can probably challenge at the top end but the defensive situation we started the season with must be addressed.

Primus was not the answer, Crainie is too inexperienced and compounding this, it seems that Moutaouakil may leave in January due to personality issues with Parkinson.

Get a couple of experienced defenders in (although McEverly could be one) and try to locate a playmaker and perhaps the rest will fall into place.

Reid all about it

Having heard this three times today, it beggars belief.

Pardew has single handedly blamed the departure of Andy Reid for the club's misfortune. Whilst he has been missed and the income was not used to strengthen the team, surely he has had a long enough time to come up with better excuses than this.

Charlton have historically sold quality players to balance the finances and this was no exception. Next we will hear if Zheng Zhi had stayed fit we would be ok. Enough is enough. Alan Pardew must just accept that his selection decisions and changes were the primary reason for the current situation.

We are in the drop zone of division two due to his poor management. Fall on the sword and move on.

What's the story?

Apart from the sheer delight of the past two days and the potential for improvement, I must admit that the excitement is back.

Hopefully all addicks fans will see the benefit of the redvolution in full force. However, the ridiculous claims in the lovely press today seem to be hindering our progress.

• Curb's did his part for the club and whilst I would never totally rule out a return to the club, he has made it clear that his future lies elsewhere.
• Other media sources vaguely link Jorge Costa (but it seems the logistics and cost would go against this).
• Paulo Di Canio!!! As much as the passion he would bring to our game, fascism to our approach and sheer footballing entertainment, this is a long shot.
• Bloody Lawrie Sanchez. What has a bit part international manager, failed Fulham head coach, think he can offer us. Remembered for one flick header in 1988 that fluked an F.A. Cup final win.
• Sam Alladyce. Route one, say no more!!

Lets see what Parkinson can do first. Giving Kins and Chapple a lead support will keep the club tradition going. Why can't we just get a solid foundation and move on. Again, consistency is the answer. SDAP and the manifesto can take afoot but we need to secure our place in the division and results are required.

The apt comments in Pedro45 in his letter from Martyn Waghorn home seem to identify what needs addressing at the club. Nicky Weaver now has to perform or get chopped. Bailey's class has to come through or replace him. The strikers must score goals. No excuses (feel free to express this to them during games as protecting their feelings won't help)!

Therefore with the addition of Keith Gillespie, I have revised my view for tomorrow night and hope for some influence from the reserves and if the team is right, then surely they will perform for the new gaffer:

Weaver; Moutaoukil, Hudson, Primus, Basey; Waghorn, Semedo, Shelvey, Bailey, Bouazza; Gray

Subs: Elliot; Fortune, Varney, Gillespie, Todorov

Whoever is selected, the performance is needed. With QPR only just appointing a new manager, we could have had better opponents but the last two away games were an improvement so lets hope!!!

Let's Snow!!!

Well the levels of despair with the time of good will approaching could not have got worse (could they?). Then we go and take a humbling by an average Championship side who have had their own turbulent times.

Then the news came in that seemed as though it was Christmas morning and I was back as a five year old boy getting a bmx. Absolutely brilliant!!!

I looked out of the window and snow is falling, all around me, children playing, having... stop the songs, not yet anyway!!

Now, this is not for getting rid of the might of Alan Pardew as I do not genuinely wish him ill but his reign was untenable. Wow! that the club acted so quickly and congratulations on not culling other back room staff yet.

We are in an impossible position at present but the change of management may bring a different fortune. We are undoubtly in an unlucky spell. Unusual goals and brilliant defensive work by the opposition led to a different outcome to another game on saturday. I was looking for a 3-1 win and if we had been given a free kick just seconds before Jose Semedo's foul that led to United's second goal then the current situation may not have arrived. This is the thin line of football.

Things that summed up the weekend were all to apparent when we were stuffed and Pardew decided to make a straight swap up front. This was finally the last unbelievable straw for many fans.

I live for this club and as with many other fans have experienced the relatively few highs and suffered all the lows. Everyone deserves the best the club can offer. Whoever we may appoint as the next manager (and don't expect that to be immediately), we have to rebuild. I wouldn't want to write a season off but unless we can miraculously turn the season around with an unprecedented number of wins then realistically we are preparing for next year.

Hopefully the QPR game can bring some light for the club but consistency is now important. That is what cost us at the start of the season (along with a lack of defenders) and now we need to form a nucleus of a team. I hope we revert to using 4-4-2 in most matches as the 4-5-1/ 4-3-3 does not seem to use our players to their best abilities. However, lets pick an eleven that get given a few matches (barring injury) but also select players on form and give youngsters a go.

My team for tuesday may seem bizarre (and may need some recalling of players) but why not:

Weaver; Moutaouakil, Hudson, Primus, Basey; Waghorn, Shelvey, Semedo, Bouazza; Gray, Waghorn. Subs: Elliot, Fortune, Christensen, Varney, Dickson.

Let's be experimental. By Christmas I would love to see Shelvey, Wright, Basey, Christensen and Waghorn all regulars. Remember that we teams can actually win something playing kids. Without trying them, how will we know if they are good enough.

Racon will be fit. We need to bring in a centre half and possibly give Randolph a go in goal but this new era could propel the club.

I know this is a lot to see but at the moment I am looking at it as though Christmas has brought everything I wished for.

As for a new manager. Names are banded about which include many unlikely candidates but I would like to hold fire and just see what Phil Parkinson can do.

Yes, I would like to see a big name or a bit of experience but being realistic, we may not be able to attract and/or afford it. Paulo Di Canio, Jorge Costa etc... would all bring a passion to the team and may well boost the side but are they realistically going to come. Less we forget that when Curb's left, we struggled to attract any big names and we were a Premier League club then.

A good shout could be someone else who we have not thought about but wants to get into management. Not that it appeals to me but the likes of Andrew Cole may encourage players to come to the club. Again this is not a likely scenario but is as probable as any.

Anyway, the redvolution starts now and we must move on. With six games before Christmas, we need at least 12 points. Let's hope for the perfect start at Loftus Road where I feel that we can sneak a 2-1 win.

I know where it's at (or not?)

For many weeks we have been trawls through the graveyards looking for a quality player (or 3) to add to our squad. Waghorn may be an inspiration but is this the only hope we have got.

I look towards Saturday with some great expectancy but I can't believe he will start ahead of the prolific Andy Gray!!! We are in need of some inspiration and sadly it does not seem to come from the manager. Pardew was a dedicated professional and is a solid manager but he lacks something.

Let's be positive though. The team are starting to fight and surely it is only a matter of time before results improve. Confidence will help them to become a stronger unit.

I really think a change is the right thing for the club and if it happens soon then the possibility of improvement will increase. Our players are capable of better and they know it. Hopefully they are realising it now.

Let's get the party started!!!

Not even in the Nick of time!

Well, it looked promising for 45 minutes and then the usual happened.

Alright, well not exactly the norm, but another string of errors and a lack of imagination from the manager and we slumped to another defeat.

It looks now that even Nicky Weaver has joined the Redvolution. He certainly did his best to help Pard's out of the door. I have never been a believer in Weaver being a top class performer but at this level he is usually a good bet.

He made errors but lets not forget the saves in previous games. Still it is again a major problem for us that players still lacking in confidence, can't make a mistake without it being a major problem for the team.

Even after this, we player 31 minutes plus against ten men. We struggled to attack the wobbling blues at full force and only the last few minutes of desperation tried to prevent a defeat. We had half and hour to win a match against a top Championship side.

Giving the attacking Shelvey less than 5 minutes was a decision that, if even being reasonable, is profound. We should have thrown everything at them. Instead we let it burn out slowly.

Can this result bring any positive. Let's hope so.

Pardew is a certain Loan-er!!!

Another week has passed and still no sign of any signings (I'm not counting the possibility of Darren Powell on a short term deal!!!).

Talk of a player from Brighton??? Where are they exactly!!! Pardew cannot seem to attract any players to the club which only adds to the belief that his time at the helm needs to come to an end for the good of our club.

If we cannot even get a player from a Premier League team who cannot get match time in that division and we don't even seem to be able to deal with sides in the fizzy cola league, what is going on.

I appreciate the idea as not to sign just anybody for the sake of it but surely Pardew was looking before he announced the possibility of loan deals. It is interesting to guess as to what positions he intends bringing players in.

He is contemplating send McLeod out on loan, then you could think a quality striker may be in order, (just for SDAP I will mention the signing on Jonatan Johansson by Hibernian when the transfer window opens) but who are likely candidates??? I am really at a loss and part of me thinks that if he fell on his sword (which is not gonna happen) then a new manager may get more out of the players who are under performing.

Lets get real and practically say that if we don't get it right now then our season is over. If we start firing then the play offs are an outside bet but it needs people to step up. The main focus here is to play a consistent team and include Hudson, Semedo and Gray as the spine. Moutaouakil and Basey are the long term best bets at full back (possibly Ian Harte? Not sure there). Sam and Bouazza if the fulfill their potential can be devastating and Gray will get goals if the performances improve. If most players showed the commitment of Hudson, Holland and Varney then we would not be far away.

My vision for the weekend looks good but I feel it will lead to another false dawn but here's hoping is does not.

The Redvolution is coming, looks as though it may have to wait until the bells are a jingling now!!!

The wheels are moving, but buying Pardew time?

Well Darren Ambrose has gone to Ipswich on loan. No surprises there!

However, this is fine if the players come in to replace the staff who were under performing. There is no point farming out some of the squad if we cannot introduce new players to bolster our bid to get back on track.

Why has JonJo Shelvey not got another chance? He is going to be a talent for the future and with Racon (when fit) could form a great youthful partnership in midfield. With players like this still not getting a chance, what is to say we bring loan players in and do not utilise them.

Again this is down to the selection of the manager. We cannot keep getting knocked back for suggesting the only positive decision the board can make for the good of our club.

What's The Point?

From the usual first forty five where we play pretty football and then give away a goal with the opposition's first real attempt on goal to snatching a result from a match that seemed destined to be a defeat.

Although this one was different. I was deep into the coverage of Richard Keys on Sky Sports Soccer Saturday (not!!) when just running through in my mind what a draw meant that up came:

Whilst the delight of 3 points was evident, my mind switched to keeping Pard's in a job until the new year. How unusual such a feeling is. As ardent fans of the Addicks, many of us have come to accept the shortfall of the club over the years and a defeat at Plymouth is no surprise but now we really should be getting results at these places.

The team is not beyond repair but it is who will perform them that needs answering. This came out with a 94th minute equalizer that I cannot deny was deserved but changed the outlook for the Charlton team again.

A point away from home is usually a good thing, that is if you win your home games. The result will again gloss over the cracks that although the selection was improved (the 4-5-1 suiting a better balance away from home), it is still not utilising the squad as is best.

I can see that the team that finished the match at Home Park may well start at St Andrew's. This is less Chris Dickson but restoring Matt Holland after the enforced change. Again there will be no thought in the selection.

LOAN SIGNINGS

Who are we going to get and will they meet the required areas?

Clutching at straws then; we may get a quality centre back to support Mark Hudson but where will the creative, free kick taking midfielder come from?

We urgently need someone to pull the strings. It seems Gray did well behind the striker on Saturday but please don't look to this for a solution. We need some quality but we can also cut some deadwood as well.

I am beyond suggesting who needs to go because I think most selections would be evident on performances and advising Mr Pardew seems a waste of time, because he rarely sees it in front of him.

MOVING ON

The time is now to remain focused on the removal of Pardew. It is imperative that he goes for the good of the club. Many other teams have benefited greatly from this in recent times and we cannot get much worse.

Nice to see SDAP keeping up the good work with the league table and the realistic approach of many other bloggers is reassuring but in support of Pedro45 and the redvolution:

When Saturday comes, another disaster looms?

Well, well, well!!!

Are we going to stand up and be count or not. This is our time and we need to remember that it is not down to Alan Pardew as to where we go from here. It is for the board at the club to make a stand with the supporters and not in opposition to them. Mr Pardew obviously does not have friends in the right places.

Firstly, we are trialling Darren 'can't get any other club' Powell and Ales 'never heard of him' Besta, who has fallen out with his club (who are FC Brno??).

WHAT IS THE POINT!!!

Following this we hear that we have had loan requests rejected for Heidar Helguson (Bolton) and Fabio (Manchester United).

NO SURPRISES THAT THEY DO NOT WANT TO COME!!!

As for Hermann returning to SE7 then do not plan for that yet.

It seems to have just been propaganda that allowed some fans to believe that we were moving forward. Just lip service on behalf of Charlton Athletic PLC, I think!!!

Saturday's game takes us to Plymouth who have a similar home record. They are no great shakes and even the current crop of players should be capable of getting a result at Home Park. Let's not be negative on the field and take the game to them. The only win we have away this season was an early goal and 80+ minutes defending. This is ridiculous for our team.

I hope that we can improve on our current momentum and turn results around but a win will only paper over the great big holes that have been formed by Pardew's selections this season. I reiterate my prediction as a conservative one and if we get the playing staff right, we could even sneak a win.

LETS GET IT STARTED!!!

Less we remember that this is a specific campaign that started with one specific purpose: To Remove Alan Pardew from his position.

The subsequent manifesto by SDAP and the promotional ideas of Pedro45 are excellent in addition to this and this could be the start of a new beginning.

Lets ensure that the first objective is met. Surely two bad results in the Plymouth and Birmingham games will seal his fate but we should not have to rely on this as even if we get some points on the road, he should be gone.

Here is awaiting the announcement of the departure which surely will come in the 24 days (not going to bother with a countdown as it may still be wishful thinking).

Lies, Lies, Lies

It was only 5 days ago that we were hearing that Linvoy Primus being unavailable was the reason we lost to Barnsley.

Then we got stories about loan signings, a South African investor and promises of immediate action.

It reality, we are just being fobbed off again!!!

What is the uncanny necessity of acquiring former employees of 'that lot' from Croydon. Darren Powell could not attract a club, yet we are trialling him. Why had no-one tried this in the close season? We cannot believe anything that the club and Mr Pardew are saying and this hurts so much more than how bad the team are performing.

WHAT A WASTE OF TIME THIS IS FOR ALL CHARLTON ATHLETIC SUPPORTERS

We need to look forward and the following needs to happen very soon:

1. Pardew is dismissed.
2. We appoint from within the club, Phil Parkinson/ Mark Kinsella.
3. We start selecting players on form and dropping everyone who is not up to it.

Of course we can list things over and over but the time for action is now and not when we join the list of ex-Premier League clubs that now reside in League 1.

A Need For Speed

Time is now of the essence if we are to avoid an embarrassing battle to survive in the second tier of English football.

Let's avoid all the ludicrous comments like we a too good to go down or too big a club to get...

STOP!!!

The simple equation is that under Mr Pardew we have not been good enough. Forget the fact that he could not keep us up post Iain 'I wanna go back up north' Dowie. Ignore the issues that he had to sell players after dropping to the Championship. Forget the lack of money to bring in players this season. His decisions have not been good enough.

Compounded at the start of this season, where we went into a supposed promotion bid with just TWO recognised central defenders. He cannot blame the sale of Bougherra on deadline day because this was always a possibility. The decisions that followed were equally obscure. Getting a young right back on loan to cover the central position was wrong. We already had two options for right back in Moutaouakil and Semedo. Then to bring in a crocked centre back who is just off of the scrap heap on loan was just stupid.

Then there is team selection. We can all pick teams and I appreciate that football managers have more about them than just this task but surely he watches the matches.

Nicky Weaver is a good keeper but until we sort out the side I feel it is unfair to fully judge him.

Basey looks good long term, as does Yassin Moutaouakil. Let's stick with them for a period. Youga is a liability in defence and needs to improve to warrant a place. Hudson and Fortune could be a good partnership when Fort's is fully fit but we need cover. Primus will be gone soon and Crainie is only a short term fix.

Shelvey looked like he was going to get the nod to start in midfield but only got one chance. We need to persevere with the younger players. Bailey has come in but the jury is still out there. Holland is great for cover and experience. Sinclair and Racon will give options once available and Semedo is a good bet for a holding role. Josh Wright will get there but it is about managing the time for him and it is crazy to place such responsibility on him at this time. Bouazza looks good but unless we have plans to keep long term then other players need to take priority. Lloyd Sam needs a run in the team and youngsters like Martin Christensen need to be introduced. Ambrose is done. He still looks good in parts but not as a winger any more. I would prefer to stick Luke Varney out wide and utilise the striking roles by other players.

A fit Todorov would be an asset to the side but can he make it back. Andy Gray is struggling and how we miss 'big' Chris Iwelumo. Izale McLeod is fit and should get more time in the team to impose himself. Dickson and Fleetwood need to be tried and them either promoted to the team or let go.

My eleven at the present for the Plymouth game has to include some realism and availability but would be:

Weaver; Moutaouakil, Basey, Hudson, Crainie; Bouazza, Semedo, Bailey, Sam; Todorov, Gray. Subs: Elliott; Primus, Shelvey, Varney, McLeod.

I would love to have included more younger players but it cannot happen overnight. The start of the season would have been good.

One to watch for the game will be Grant Basey. He had an awful game at home to Barnsley but we should not keep discarding players after a bad match.

We desperately need points away from home and perhaps have to accept Pardew is not going anywhere at the moment. Keep the campaign going but not lose sight of the reality of the upcoming games.
